Glendalough - valley of the two lakes

For thousands of years people have been drawn to ‘the valley of the two lakes‘ for its spectacular scenery, rich history, archaeology and abundant wildlife. Glendalough is a remarkable place that will still your mind, inspire your heart and fill your soul.

The scenery of marshland, cliffs, boulder scree and the steeply descending Glenealo River is quite dramatic.

Plus its a very good workout in fresh air - 9 km (nearly 6 miles) will take you 3 hours. Up the hill and down the hill (500 m above sea level). There are many different hiking tracks and you dont have to take the one that is longest :P. You can also take some that will take 30 min to an hour :).

Glendalough is one of Ireland’s most beautiful visitors’ destinations

Glendalough is home to one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland. This early Christian monastic settlement was founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century and from this developed the “Monastic City”.
